This is the day we’ve all been waiting for…..
Even though we know nothing will happen.
Why do we care? We know they’re done. *sigh*
Anyway, I’m a fan of Jake Muzzin so we can call this deadline a success as is. Knowing they’re done isn’t about to stop me from hoping they aren’t though.
Colin Miller is the name floating around the water coolers at the moment, so here’s a little bit of info on the player:
Miller is a player that can help you 5v5 (53.88 SAT%) and on the powerplay. He moves the puck really well and is locked into a reasonable contract at 3.875M for 3 more seasons after this one. The only Leaf defender with a higher Hits/GP rate would be Jake Muzzin, so while he isn’t exactly a bruising defender, he isn’t afraid to throw a little weight around either. Simply put, he fits exactly what the Leafs are doing right now, and he has playoff experience after going to the Cup Final with the Knights last season.
The only problem I see is that the Leafs want to go “dollar in-dollar out” with any trade they make right now to protect themselves from bonus overages next season. Sending out nearly 4M is a little tougher than you’d think. Unless the Leafs are sending a similar contract, like the one belonging to Nikita Zaitsev the other way, then it may be a tough deal to make on paper. Meanwhile, if they do send out a contract like that it may cost them more to do it, or the Knights might simply say no. Connor Brown, Ron Hainsey and Jake Gardiner are also candidates to go the other way, but for various reasons I would find it hard to believe that any of them are on their way out the door before a playoff run.
Only a few hours left before we know what their playoff roster will look like, but my guess is we saw the team that will be on the ice in Game #1 of the playoffs fully dressed on Saturday night.
