On September 15th, 2017, the Toronto Maple Leafs officially kicked off their on-ice season by opening training camp in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
Being held thru this weekend at the Gale Centre, the Leafs took to the ice in drills, and scrimmage as well as participating in dry-land activities.
While many fans and media had drawn up a million different lineups (exaggeration for benefit of scenarios), the Leafs top line remained in tact with Zach Hyman-Auston Matthews-William Nylander all skating together.
Interesting note to that group, Nylander did play center and take draws during the scrimmage at one point, with Matthews shuffling to the wing.
Line number two, or three, had JVR-Tyler Bozak-Mitchell Marner together again. The three amigos went head to head with the Matthews line and had success, albeit in very limited exposure.
Further interesting note, it was said that Mitch Marner was by far the most effective player on the ice today during the scrimmage sessions.
Marner with a goal and an assist. By far the best player out there after 1. #tmltalk

Marner, had a very effective summer season in the gym and the benefits are showing during interviews and now on the ice. Look for a massive season from the second year professional.
Newest Leafer Patrick Marleau, his 38th birthday today, was skating with Leo Komarov and Frederik Gauthier. Marleau, and his skating are already starting to impress his new teammates here in Toronto. Jake Gardiner had this to say…..
Jake Gardiner, a very fast skater, says he can't get over how fast old guy Marleau is. Turns 38 today.
