Rookie Tournament Weekend – Live Update – Game 2

Rookie Maple Leafs vs Rookie Canadiens

Leafs vs. Habs.

The Gardens.

Sure it’s not the real gardens but it is a great vibe at the arena this evening.

First Period

First period the Leafs come out to play. Soshikov and Skladnichenko start the game with solid efforts, they came to play. Strong on the puck and both bring a slight physical aspect to their games. Lots of hitting and very crisp passing. Different start than last night.

Opening goal is scored by Rodewald on an excellent redirection from below the face off circle. 1-0 Leafs.

Lizotte and McCarron engage in a spirited tilt after a really good hit by Lizotte. Kid working hard to impress on his amateur try out contract.

During the McCarron instigator penalty, Habs tie it shorthanded, on a breakaway that should never happen. Jamal Watson with the top shelf backhand.

1-1 at the end of first. Shots on goal, 14-11 Leafs.

Second Period

To the second periods we go.

Habs begin to take the body. Heavy fore-check and heavy along the walls leads to the 2nd fight of the evening. Lernout feeds Brouillard a bunch of rights early before the Leafer knows he is really into one. Bring me toughness. (said for 9/10 years in last decade)

Bozon scores for the Habs immediately after 2-1.

After serving his major, Brouillard scores to tie the game as he pinched down from the point.

Mere seconds later, Michael Joly scores to make it 3-2 Leafs!!

Heavy hitting from Habs leads to a game tying goal on their very next shift. Incredible to see what hard work produces, please take note.

Leafs fail to score on a power play late in the second but awarded a 5-3 after a boneheaded play by a Habs forward shoving the Leafer into the net.

End of 2nd tied 3-3. Shots on goal, 32-23 good guys.

Third Period

Leafs start the period on a 1:35 powerplay.

Gauthier getting lots of opportunities to expand his game by working top line minutes on the PP
solid chances but the Habbies are up to the challenge.

Martins Dzierkals establishing a fore check leads to a few Leafs chances but , Errrrr, score remains the same.

Leafs controlled the play in the first five minutes of the period.

Brouillard with a nifty set of mittens along the boards to draw a tripping penalty. Leafs PP quickly dashed after a Joly hook.

Habs score 4 on 4 to take the lead. I really do hate them with my entire being.

5-3 Habs on a goal from Dalton Thrower. Solid game from him.

Leafs PP with just over 7 mins to go.

Leafs pull the goalie and score with 3:12 left. Not over. Brouillard. 5-4.

Empty netter, Hudon.

Final Score 6-4.

EFFFFF

That’s it from the Gardens.

Phook OUT!
