Pre-Game Primer…kind of

A Message from LeafsHub.com

“There will be pain” has come to be a bit of a slogan around these parts, hasn’t it? During our inaugural season at LeafsHub.com we admittedly already felt some of that pain, attempting to build a new Maple Leafs website dedicated to following a 2014/15 team that, well, no comment necessary. Last year is in the rear-view mirror and one of the things we learned after that debacle is through great pain comes an even greater gain. As we plugged away, navigating our way through the hockey market in Toronto, the resiliency of the fans was proven once more. Now here we stand, at the outset of what I wholeheartedly believe will be the Maple Leafs greatest era. Is there more pain to come following this team? There certainly is. Will every ounce of it be worth it in the end? You know it. Babcock’s words are simple ones to us all. “Be patient. It’ll happen.”

I, along with my colleagues, had the good fortune of spending time around the organization in London and it’s difficult to describe the feeling I sensed in the air. Forever a hopeful fan base, would I call the vibe given off “hope?” Not really, no. I know what hope and blind faith is all about, I can sense that 10 miles away after a life of Leaf-dom. The mojo resonating inside the walls of the Maple Leafs is a creation of not only hope, not only belief in doing things the right way, but a confidence that belief will one day soon transform into achievement. With names like Babcock, Lamiorello, Shanahan, Dubas and Hunter behind the scenes, names like Marner, Rielly, Nylander, Kadri and a deep prospect pool that will continue to grow on the ice, Leafs Nation has every right to be optimistic about the future. Not a fabricated optimism either, genuine excitement for the long road ahead.

Not unlike the Leafs, we have a long road ahead of us here at LeafsHub.com as well. Season One is in the books for us and we wouldn’t be comfortable beginning year two without thanking everyone who helped us not only survive, but to succeed in our first 12 months covering the Toronto Maple Leafs and its affiliates. I probably should list everyone that has supported us and was gracious enough to do stories with a young unproven site like ours, but I fear I would miss someone. The other fear is the list would be gargantuan, as I’d have to share the names of all of our loyal readers and commenters at the Hub. You all know who you are and we are proud to say you are friends of the site. It’s because of your visits that for year two we are able to provide:

  •  Game Day Threads, both pre and post-game
  • Bi-Weekly Prospect Reports
  • Monthly Maple Leafs Team Infographs
  • View From The Blues(VFTB) – a weekly column covering all things Leafs, by Robb Ellis
  • Stories and Interviews with some of the biggest names in Toronto hockey
  • The Blue n White Tonight Podcast (tonight’s guest is the one and only, Paul Hendrick)
  • In-depth Marlies coverage and player access from Ricoh Coliseum all year long
  • Insight from Leafs great, Rick Vaive
  • Heart & Soul, Blue Blooded Leafs talk

Speaking of pride, it’s time this original six team gets there’s back, starting tonight. Let’s kick this year off in style, as the fan base and organization we constantly strive for. There will be frustrating times ahead and I know we will fight together, we will argue together, and we will most likely lose together. Out of everything I’ve learned though from our first year at LeafsHub.com, when it comes to Leafs Nation that’s the key word, together. Our love of the crest is our bond and we may all see the game differently but we all want the same thing. Join us this year to debate, to enjoy, to laugh and even to cry. Hopefully we can avoid tears and if we do this right, we just might be able to win together too.

Our sincerest thanks as we look forward to an enjoyable 2015/16 season, a bright future at LeafsHub.com, and most importantly a successful decade for our Toronto Maple Leafs.

See you at puck drop.
