Friday morning the Toronto Maple Leafs announced that 19 year old, Kasperi Kapanen had been returned to the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.
Kapanen, had played 9 games with the parent club in the NHL and would have used a year off of his Entry Level Contract (commonly known as the ELC) if he suited up for a 10th game with the Leafs.
The native of Kuopio, Finland did not register a point in the NHL during his initial foray into the deep end of the pool and was a -3. Needing to get a bit quicker and more decisive in his actions, Kapanen will help lead the Marlies into the Calder Cup playoffs as that action heats up in the AHL.
A plus/minus of -3 and 2 PIMs is all that Kasperi will have to show for that first attempt at the big leagues, but greater than that will be the experience and education that he gained during the time spent around much bigger and faster NHL players and in the video room with Coach Babcock and staff.
The Marlies return to action on Friday night at the Ricoh Coliseum and we should expect Kapanen to be in the lineup to take on the Lake Erie Monsters. 7pm start.
