Murph steps up with another unassisted GDR !!
Calder Cup Finals – Game 5, Toronto Marlies @ Texas Stars
Here we go again, game 5 is tonight and the series is all tied up at 2 a piece. The kids played a decent game last game but will need to tighten up on the defensive end and stop giving up the puck so easily.
Now on the other hand, the Marlies completely dominated in the offensive end on Thursday night but just couldn’t seem to capitalize on most of their chances.
As I said last game Johnsson needed to have a better game and he definitely did, he and Holl played that 2 on 1 perfectly… It was a thing of beauty.
Some other notables from the game on Thursday that I noticed:
Timashov – Had a somewhat lucky bounce but I thought played a solid game (I am biased in this sense).
Moore – He has been a massive contributor in the playoffs and always seems to be roughing it up, even though he is 23 I am excited to see what he will bring to the table in the future.
We also have some players that need to pick their game up as well
Gauthier – He was hurt in Game 3 and was questionable for game 4, is he banged up? Not playing to 100%? I noticed a few bobbles in his game on Thursday.
Aaltonen – Yes, he did have an assist in Game 4 but it wasn’t anything crazy. Mainly threw the puck up ice and Johnsson and Holl took care of the rest. I feel as if he has taken a step back this series and hope he can find his game again, since he was being talked about as being the Leafs 3rd or 4th line C next year. He will need to end on a solid note if he wants to get there.
As Blue mentioned in the last article we have some good young D in the system like Holl, Dermott, Liljegren etc. But last game, as much as I love Dermott he did have a few bad giveaways that I noticed, as well as Liljegren. Now before people rip me apart for saying something bad about a prospect, I do realize he is still growing and has a good head on his shoulders to be able to learn from his mistakes (unlike some other defensemen we have seen play on our team).
On to our goalies now, Sparks I will assume will be in net. He has been a mainstay for the Marlies this playoffs, not much to discuss here.
Play hard, stop turning the puck over, and capitalize on your chances!!
GO MARLIES GO
