Game 7!! Toronto Marlies Vs Texas Stars, Calder Cup Finals
Well… here we are folks, game 7 of the Calder Cup Finals. The kids have a big task ahead of them tonight since they didn’t quite live up to expectations in Game 6.
Tonight I will be kind of doing a game summary from game 6 because I’m rattled about it and frustrated with how some of them played in that very important game. I’m sure coach feels the same way.
Forwards : These guys seem to be our strong position (which we all know it is), in game 6 we completely dominated the Stars in their own end. The only difference in the score of the game was a few lucky bounces and of course their goaltender Mckenna. We need to do the same that was done in the last game, except they need to find a way to bury their chances.
Defense : Sigh…. Again with the defense…. There were a few hugely blatant errors by the D, not as many giveaways as there was in game 4 but unnecessary mistakes that could have been controlled. The biggest error on D all night was Martin Marincin, when you go hard into a corner and get knocked down, (by what could have been a penalty, but with the way the games have been called…) you don’t sit there and stare at the ref for what seems like eternity. Get your ass UP and get back to your position, and yes Justin Holl was already at his own blue line even though the puck was not yet cleared out of the zone.
That was goal 1 for the Stars which after that goal, we had lost our drive and Texas started to generate a lot more chances. That is pretty much the summary of our defensive end last night, just mental errors that could have been prevented. Lets hope the guys got all of that out of their system in game 6.
Goaltending : Garret Sparks, well he had an off night yes. Goal 2 was an “oops” on his end but there were a few other goals that we needed a big save on and he just couldn’t come up with it. Breakaway chance on a powerplay, yes that never should have happened in the first place (all 5 Marlies within a 10ft area *cringe*) but it would’ve been huge if he could have stopped that since it was 3-1 at the time.
All in all, take game 6’s mistakes in and just don’t do any of them for 60 minutes on Thursday. Bring your A game, because this Texas team can play hockey.
