A fairly quiet, and cool morning in Toronto started to heat up just as practice started at the Mastercard Center of Mediocrity……
Right off the bat, before taking too many laps on the ice P.A. Parenteau left the rink before the actual practice started. Twitter went into a frenzy, only to have Leafs representatives say that Parenteau was banged up at the end of last night’s game and was taking the day off. Think of that what you will. Lou doesn’t mess around.
Next the Leafs announced that Rich Clune (he of the awesome sound bite) was being loaned to the Toronto Marlies. Clune, has been effective since being called up to the big club. Aggressive on the forecheck and always competing hard, it is an excellent addition to an already depleted AHL club.
Third move that came just before noon, was that newly acquired Jared Cowen would be put on waivers by the Leafs. Cowen then skated the practice with the Leafs team, and afterwards was disappointed that he was on waivers. “I don’t know what is going on or what to expect….nothing was said to me”
Fourth move of the day, the Leafs announced that Viktor Loov will be also returned to the Marlies. Great for blueline depth and also a guy who plays physical when required. Steady in his games with the big club, Loov showed that he does have ability to play at the NHL level and would expect to see him get more games before the season is over.
And before we are done, Leafs property Raffi Torres announced that he was shutting down his season. Torres who had been playing with the San Jose affiliate, Barracuda, is not retiring but going to take time off from his career. Torres is a UFA as of July 1, 2016 and not expected to be re-signed by the Maple Leafs organization.
A lot of moves by the Leafs today….will there be more?
