Leafs Trade Winnik to Pittsburgh
Per multiple sources, the Maple Leafs have traded Daniel Winnik to the Pittburgh Penguins. In exchange, the Leafs receive Zach Sill, a 4th round pick in 2015 and a 2nd round pick in 2016. Getting two decent picks for Winnik is a big win, especially considering Tlusty only managed to net Carolina a 3rd and a 5th. Per Pierre LeBrun, the Leafs will retain 50% of Winnik’s remaining salary.
David Nonis, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Wednesday that the hockey club has acquired forward Zach Sill, Pittsburgh’s second round draft pick in 2016 and Pittsburgh’s fourth round draft pick in 2015 in exchange for forward Daniel Winnik.
Sill, 26, has skated in 42 regular season games this season for Pittsburgh, collecting three points (one goal, two assists) and 60 penalty minutes. The native of Truro, Nova Scotia has appeared in 62 career NHL regular season games, all with the Penguins. Sill has also registered 73 points (33 goals, 40 assists) in 277 career regular season games in the AHL.
The Maple Leafs return to the ice tomorrow night when they play host to the Philadelphia Flyers at 7:30 p.m.
