Today the Toronto Maple Leafs announced the signing of Sam Carrick (23 yrs old) to a one year contract.
Carrick played in 16 games with the Maple Leafs last season (1 g 1a 9 PIMS) in a limited role before being sent back to the Toronto Marlies. Over the course of his 140 games in the AHL, he as accrued 66 points during that span.
Carrick has the ability to play any role asked of him by the coaching staff, and has the traits that new Head Coach Mike Babcock will look for during this rebuild year.
The Markham, Ontario native plays a physical brand of hockey that sometimes can go over the line but will take an opposition player with him as he heads to the penalty box. In his last two seasons with the Marlies, Carrick put up 115 and 112 PIMs in respective years.
Details of the one year deal were not announced in specifics. Look for Carrick to battle for the 4th line centre position in Camp with ability to play the wing if required.
Character and depth signing today by the Maple Leafs. Fans of the Marlies can attest that this is the type of player who doesn’t take many shifts off during the course of the game and adds sandpaper to a rather docile group of forwards.
More to details as they become available.
