Thursday June 4th, 2015 the Toronto Maple Leafs announced that TJ Brennan had been resigned to a 1 yr deal and that Swedish Prospect Andreas Johnson had signed a 3 yr Entry Level Contract with the club.
Johnson had 35 pts in 55 regular season games with Frolunda of the SEL and was the 2013/14 Rookie of the Year for that league. Andreas was Drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 7th round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Rumour was that Johnson would be playing another season in the SEL for 2015/16, but with this deal in place, it wouldn’t shock me if Andreas was wearing Marlies blue and white come the fall here in Toronto.
TJ Brennan, 26 year old New Jersey native accumulated 52 points in 73 AHL games with Rockford and the Toronto Marlies this year. In 2013/14 Brennan won the Eddie Shore Award for Top Defenseman in the American Hockey League.
I would expect Brennan to compete for a NHL roster spot out of Camp in the fall with his hard working attitude and ability to quarterback the power play. Brennan was leaned on heavily by the Marlies during their stretch run to get into the playoffs this season and before eventually losing in Game 7 to the Grand Rapid Griffins.
