At noon, Eastern Standard Time, the twittersphere came alive as it was announced that the Leafs had claimed Alexy Marchenko (Detroit) off of the waiver wire.

Following that transaction it was announced that the Leafs had put Frank Corrado onto waivers, and potential freedom from the Pressbox and that stale ACC popcorn.

The addition of the former Detroit blueliner will give options to Head Coach Mike Babcock and his staff. As an aside, Nikita Zaitsev and Machenko have played together during International play for Mother Russia.
According to our Scouting Insiders (Loric’s Brother), it was Zaitsev that shifted to the left side as both players would seem to have the most familiarity playing the right side.
Interesting times indeed, seeing as Mike Babcock already has familiarity with Marchenko and did not seem to have much use for Corrado.
Babcock seemed to say two years ago to Free Press he'd rather have had Marchenko up from AHL than have Detroit trading for other d-man pic.twitter.com/m86Dy9BzhA
