Well it is damn clear that coach Babcock likes winning. After the turd that Bernier posted Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Lightning, coach Babcock is going back to rookie goalie Garret Sparks. Sparks has a 0.921 sv%, 2.20 GAA and holding onto A 3-1-0 record during his call-up. If James Reimer can recover from injury sooner than expected I do not see Bernier getting another start unless it is in relief during a B2B sked. Ian Shantz of the Toronto Star is reporting that “Reimer won’t be back anytime soon” so expect to see Sparks take the majority of the starts in the near future.
Sparks started his NHL career with a franchise record rookie shut-out against the Edmonton Oilers in late November. People say OIlers? who cares!, well the oilers are an impressive 6-1 through December thus far. In Spark’s next game he would post a stinker letting in 6 goals against the Winnipeg Jets. Impressively he bounced back with poise and professionalism winning his next two starts posting a 0.964 and 0.926 sv%, respectively.
Joffery Lupul slotted back into the line against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Shaking off some rust well, he kept his on ice opponents even on the score sheet for the 10:24 min of 5v5 ice-time he was given.
The enigma that is Frank Corrado played his first NHL game since being claimed off the waiver wire from the Vancouver Canucks. Playing only 7:48 at 5v5 he posted an impressive 70.4 CF%. He played most of his minutes with Roman Polak which is very odd to post such a high possession number. Though a high possession number he was out-chanced at -4 differential and suffered one goal against mostly due to Roman Polak allowing his man come down the wing untouched and beating Bernier on the blocker side. Can anyone explain what in the bloody hell Polak was doing on the play? It was of the utmost @oak_leafs mensa quality. ** wet fart noise
I will be keeping a closer eye on Corrado this evening if he gets the chance to slot in again. There is an unbelievable amount of fuss about him from both extreme of the opinion spectrum. I have yet to hear an objective opinion on him from anyone, most likely because not enough analysts have seen him play enough or their faces are buried in a 30,000 cell spreadsheet.
Tyler Bozak seemed to have a hell of a game against the Bolts, yet I think people enjoy not noticing he finished even at both 5v5 and all situations. His goals only did good in Yahoo Fantasy Pools if the league is deep enough to waste roster spots on filler players. 😉
Onto to tonight. The San Jose Sharks swim into town from the league worst pacific division. Though they currently sit 2nd in the Pacific they hold only a 4 point lead on the last place Anaheim Ducks. It is reasonable to assume that third place in Pacific could win a Playoff spot with less points and worse record than that of the Western Conference wild card holder. Bettman really whiffed on this one, way to give out playoff spots to the undeserving.
The Sharks hold a depressing 4-9 record at home, yet are an impressive 11-5-1 Away. This does not bode well for our hometown hero Maple Leafs. Sidenote: I love the Leafs crest so much that i cannot mentally hope and cheer for losses. That is the path of the darkside <–Forshadowing.
At the time this was written, it is assumed that Martin Jones will protect the pipes for the San Jose Sharks. I reall don’t care to say much about Martin Jones or whoever the Sharks decide to play tonight at the ACC except that I hope they get lit up like the Rockefeller christmas tree.
The importance of a win tonight is for Spark to not lose his confidence, maybe not even a win really, but this team cannot allow sparks to get shelled. In all honesty Sparks and possibly Bibeau are our current future goal tenders. Specifically Sparks who fought so hard to move back up the ranks through the ECHL, i feel it is still early for them to be playing in the NHL. Nothing beats a good aged steak. They both need to be sheltered a little longer. To quite frank, I really DGAF what happens to Reimer and especially Bernier. They are the Leafs of today and not the future, both fan bases need some chill and realise they are not here to stay, they are the Leafs of today and not tomorrow.
In the wake of Star Wars: The Force Awakens world wide release today, I present to you my inner 6’3” burly bearded nerd. Welcome my enlightened Yoda impersonation.
Lose must not accept, wins you must seek. With Master Babcock, the force runs strong. Belief in his decisions you must not avoid. Through training, positivity and clear minds, the future, you can see. Hate and negativity, to darkside leads. If to the darkside, you follow, clouded, the future will be. When clouded, your mind is, paths of corners cut, you will accept. Unfortunate it is, if this path you seek.
Will come, more change. Suffer more pain, you will. Give in to the hate, Leafs Nation must not. Experience success the patient will. Chose patience. Or do not. There is no try.
I just got fired by Phook 😉
