Maple Leafs (15-15-7) at Ducks (16-15-7) – SNO, FS-W
Finally. It’s game day.
First off, i would really like to congratulate the NHL scheduling department for being absolutely abysmal at their jobs.
Jan, 6th. The day of epiphany for some, Christmas Eve for many eastern orthodox people. On this day, Leafs Nation in 2015, draw the birth of the ShanaPlan. One year ago today, Randy Carlyle was released of his head coaching duties and scapegoat Peter Horachek was promoted to Interim head coach.
Let’s recap 2014/2015 Leafs:
PH: Hey Randy, we need to have these guys play hockey
RC: I know that Pete, but these plugs can’t play like that. The only way they will succeed is on the counter attack and playing some good ol’ pond Hockey.
PH: Sorry about losing your job Randy, but I am going to attempt to teach these guys a more possession driven game.
RC: Good luck Pete (Evil Grin)
PH while sipping on an expensive Cognac
“What just happened? Who would assemble a group of players like this? RC was right”
(long pause, long sip)
“I will never work again. I am moving to Florida”
Now that we all have that in past, let’s never talk about it again. Really, who gives a shit anymore. Thanks Randy for bringing us to the playoffs.
Thank you Peter for exposing this team for what they are and risking to never work again.
All that lead to this season:
- Great so far
- No expectations
- Best coach in the league
- Work ethic from ALL players
On to today, tonight and the future. Our Toronto Maple Leafs start game one of a back-to-back and game one of a three game California road trip, all in the span of four days. Game one is against the ever so peculiar Anaheim Ducks. The Ducks were favoured by many professional and not so professional writers and analysts to be the frontrunner for this years Stanley Cup Championship. Right. Anaheim sits at a mediocre (16-15-7) record holding 39 points and currently not holding a playoff spot. There record ever so resembles that of the Toronto Maple Leafs, difference being the star studded roster.
The Leafs are 6-2-2 in the last 10 and come into California on a two-game win streak. The Leafs are currently sitting 14th in the East, seven points out of a playoff spot and only four points ahead of the dead past Columbus Blue Jackets. With all that said, except for a couple Bernier blunders this season, does anyone remember any games that the Leafs were not in. They have played a very formidable brand of hockey this season, and I am almost all in on having hope.
Emotionally I have no problems with this team winning games, and staying within reach of most of them. We were told by Mike Babcock that a “winning culture” needs to be brought back to Toronto. Sorry to break it to you ladies and gents but the only way to have someone appreciate the work involved in winning and developing an inner yearning for winning is, well to WIN.
I totally understand the need to draft high. I also understand the usefulness in winning as well. Do you?
