Game Day Report Brought to you by: Murph.
(thank you sir !!)
Tonight it’s the Leafs vs the Flyers, the Leafs have lost both match-ups vs the Flyers this season and have been struggling as of late. They have lost their last 3 games and have not won in regulation since December 28 against Arizona. I can imagine that tonight is pretty important in the first step to getting on the winning side of things again especially after an abysmal late loss last game against the St.Louis Blues.
The team needs to find a way to win those tight games, including our coaching staff taking advantage of our strengths instead of forcing a terrible defensive team to play tight defense in the hardest parts of the game (the best defense is a good offence).
The key tonight will be limiting scoring chances for Giroux and Couturier, it will be a tough task for the Leafs as the Flyers seem on the rise the last few weeks and they are in their home barn tonight, they also have 4 wins and 2 losses since January 1st ( much better than the leafs). Another notable stat for the flyers is that they sit 8th in the league on the power play, while the Leafs sit at 11th. However, the Leafs have a better penalty kill percentage than the Flyers at 84% and 74.5% (3rd lowest in the league) respectively.
The Leafs will be looking to Matthews, Nylander, Marner and Rielly to pump the Flyers net full of pucks, the big 4 are currently leading the leafs in points for this season. Matthews specifically needs to get out of a “slump” even though he is leading the team in points, some fans feel has been less than spectacular lately.
Andersen is in net as usual and with his 2.67 GAA and .922 SV% after a poor start to the year, is looking to have another solid game.
